Habits for Success
A ship at sea does not turn swiftly.
It takes a steady drive over a period of time to set upon a new course. I have found that life is much like that ship or even a boat.
We know where we want to go, we find our heading, and we just need to make the turn.
But the waters of life can cause resistance to our turn. We must power through to be successful.
Our drive comes from within and it is a diligent repetition of positive actions that make the turn.
The greatest way to make that happen is by forming habits that move us forward. Our habits are like the propeller of the boat.
Consistently, and repetitively moving in a direction that pushes the boat, just a little at a time, forward with every spin.
The rudder directs the path of the boat, just as our mindset determines the direction of our life.
After the covid pandemic began to wind down and having endured some serious life stressors, I knew something had to change.
I had packed on almost 20lbs and felt miserable. My mindset, attitude, and habits were thrown to the wind.
Stress can cause some serious health setbacks.
The inflammation in my body was retaliating against all my will.
I was fighting like a tiger but being defeated like a lifeless ragdoll.
There I lay, exhausted when it became apparent to me that I have all the tools to start hammering away to fight for the way I want to feel and that is healthy and strong again!
Yes, I was fighting, but there was no structure or consistency.
I needed to build habits if I was going to win this fight.
I started planning out my days, making a routine of how to run each day.
Healthy meals for myself and my family were planned and prepped.
I planned nutritional supplementation, and water intake, and worked on a new fitness routine.
The efficiency of my new habits even allowed me to set time aside for rest.
Sleep is just as important as nutrition.
Forming actions into habits took time.
Not every day was my best day and I made mistakes.
But, I didn’t give up, and eventually, my routines turned into habits.
The weight started coming off, my stress went down, and I was more rested.
I found my new heading and the horizon I’m sailing toward looks amazing!
There is no magic to my story.
You have the same ability to change course.
Be determined, have grace with yourself when you fall down, and always get back up.
You’ve got this!
